Connecting with Other Caregivers

Caregiving isn’t doing it all by yourself
You are not alone in your caregiving journey. You may feel that “I am the only one thinking and feeling this way”. Actually, there are many other caregivers, who are in their respective stages of this journey, feeling the same as you do or even have the same questions that you are thinking of.
You can speak up to share your innermost feelings which can help reduce the sense of isolation and relieve some of the emotions you may have. Through your sharing, other caregivers can learn from your experience and get useful advice to support each other in this journey together.
Caregiver support network
There are more than 100 community mental health teams islandwide. Some of these teams focus on caregivers who are caring for persons with mental health conditions and/or dementia. These caregivers may have, or may be at risk of developing depression, anxiety and burnout due to their caregiving responsibilities. These teams also raise public awareness of caregiving concerns and promote early identification of caregiver needs.
These teams run the Caregiver Support Network (CSN) that connects and supports caregivers caring for persons living with dementia, mental health or physical health conditions. At each CSN, caregivers are empowered through a peer support network that focuses on self-care, mindset change and recognition. They also provide psychosocial intervention such as counselling and coping techniques and support the caregivers’ mental well-being through organising health and wellness activities, eg stress management and self-care. Caregivers are linked up to support services in the community where needed.
